Riding in 2013 are Mark Shapiro, Gary Silberstein, Peter Byala and Hylton Leibowitz.
Bibs and ride numbers were collected from Langley Park.
Mark’s shiny new cycling jersey.
We set off bright and early and caught the train at 5.33 am. It was quite cool as well – one of the coolest mornings of the year so far.
We crammed into the train and headed to Mandurah.
Upon arriving in Mandurah we waited in the train station car park for the ride to begin. We bumped into Bradley and his friend Matthew Bell.
The start was delayed by an hour as they waited for the last train to arrive and for the freeway to be cleared. The start was a shambles and everyone scrambled to start. We weren’t able to stay together. Gary got a puncture at the start but with so many riders coming through we were not able to help him with a replacement tube. As a result of the late start the Mandurah riders overlapped the slower riders coming from Kwinana and it became very dangerous. Many people had accidents and there were quite a few complaints on Facebook and the Bicycle Network blog.
Bradley and Matthew also finished.
There were quite a few riders with GoPros to record the ride. This is one that has been posted to YouTube.
